EAGLE FARM REVIEW - 1ST MAY2 weeks ago
Race 1 – The big query over this race was whether DR WHY NOT would get the 1400m. He was able to control the race in front and go nearly 8L slower than a fortnight ago over the 1200m at this track.
Race 2 – They went a lot faster here than originally forecast by myself which turned the race on its head in favour of TRADUCE & JOYMAKER hence why they have run the quinella from the back of the field here. Didn't mind the run of SAVVY OAK here. He can win one of these type of races soon.
Race 3 – I found GET STUCK IN hard to like in this. VICTORY EIGHT with a couple of gear changes showed a nice turn of foot to win well. No excuses for the beaten brigade.
Race 4 – MASS DESTRUCTION had his chance. Absolutely had GEORGIE'S PRIDE cooked 200m from home but Jimmy Byrne had a bit up his sleeve on the filly and she was too strong for him late. The way the race was run pretty worked out how most would have thought except for the result being the other way around.
Race 5 – This was a very poor race. Nobody really wanted to win except for SLOW HANDS who was bolting midfield coming to the turn. TAKEITTOTHELIMIT ran on well from the back.
Race 6 – Ride of the day goes to Larry Cassidy on MISS HIPSTAR. The horse went well too. They didn't ever look likely to go past her. She was very strong on the line suggesting further will be good for her. BERDINI'S GIRL was restrained early and ridden quietly. She hit the line well and was strong past the post. Good return by this filly.
Race 7 – APACHE CHASE was simply huge here. He went way too fast and simply had to tire. PRIVATE EYE did a really good job to circle the field and win. Very fast run.
Race 8 – NICCANOVA looked beneficiary of a fast run race early with 1200 being just the start of his distance range he was always likely to be super strong late. STAMPE out of his depth was huge. Restrained early, unlucky in the straight/should have finished closer and very strong late. Would love to see him drop back in grade.
Race 9 – FENDER with the position in run that he had was always going to be hard to beat here but he was extremely lucky that Michael Rodd on GARIBALDI chose to sit inside Potro Duro from the 800m instead of tracking up outside of him. That's where the race was lost. Simply huge GARIBALDI. Happy to follow him in his next few. It's no secret he is finally discovering his potential since the start of his preparation at the back end of last year but he can win a really good race against better horses after his effort here.
