Gibbo's MM day review

Review of MAGIC MILLIONS day 2020:

Race 1: The Maiden is usually a very good form line for a month or so after the race. Not so sure this year. AEECEE BEAU was a drifting fav and went poorly. SPACEBOY was well backed but missed a place after leading. HE’LL HAUNT US raced right up to his recent trial, nice and strong through the line to run over HULK with PLAYTHEFIELD also good late to run 3rd. Might be able to follow those two, just don’t think they will be backable odds next time around. PLAYTHEFIELD was an exceptionally good last 200m split.

Race 2: Thought ETANA was just plain last week but she come out and improved lengths to beat these easily. RECKLESS CHOICE bungled the start and then had to go back to last. There was enough speed for him to run on but he was simply not good enough and might have had enough this time in work.

Race 3: Good training effort from Thompson to jump PRIMITIVO up in trip sharply and get the job done here. A very good ride from Boss and he just had too much sprint in his legs for these, he’s a nice horse and might be in for a good 12 months. THE CANDY MAN was an alarming drifter and he ran up to the drift! (Pulled up with the thumps). BLACK ON GOLD looked the winner approaching the corner, just didn’t quicken well enough and went back to what was probably not the best part of the track.

Race 4: Probably the ride of the day here- JMAC on MADAM ROUGE. From gate 1 he gave her a beautiful run throughout and then before the corner got the mare off the fence, got to the outside on the better ground and run down ISAURIAN the last few strides. Just a 10/10 ride and her late splits from the 600m-home were some of the best all day. ISAURIAN looked the winner and looks a better horse this time in work. They were both very good. KEMALPASA was the unlucky runner, may not have been in the finish but with any luck at all should have finished 3rd.

Race 5: Class rose to the top here. INVINCIBELLA wins the same race three years in a row, an amazing effort. She was wide with cover and on straightening she was never getting beaten. IRITHEA gave a nice kick and she ran really well to hold 2nd. LA TIGRESA might not have run into the money but again run up their backs and was lucky not to fall, forget she ran.

Race 6: How good is he? ALLIGATOR BLOOD gets stuck in traffic and as it’s been reported he can be a bit of a handful and not the best traveller. Many on track were hearing he wasn’t going to make it and we all thought he’d struggle after being stuck on the float. Once he got in the yard you could tell it was game on, he was fine, no sweat and on his game. The rest is history, far too good for these. ELEVEN ELEVEN has been exceptional this prep and the run was outstanding (as was the ride). He was on speed and ran fastest split from 800-600m. Other leaders stopped while he was still good late.

Race 7: Lots of good runs here but the winner AWAY GAME blew them away, clearly too good in a dominant display. She is a progressive type and I have to admit I didn’t see this coming. Really warmed to STELLAR PAULINE the closer we got to the race and she was travelling like the winner on the corner, just didn’t have the turn of foot of the winner. CONCEITED, WISDOM OF WATER and RATHLIN were all good late down the outside. AIM was back to the fence, I’d be a little forgiving of his run.

Race 8: Yet another winner who got a great steer. M.Rodd got VEGA ONE in the right spot, he is an improving horse and once he hit the front they were never running him down. REDOUBLE had trialled well leading in and he let down well to be the main challenger. Thought CRACK ME UP and DEEP IMAGE had their chances and were a little disappointing without being bad.

Race 9: Good to see OUTBACK BARBIE stand up on a big day and get the job done. The rain 5 mins before might have been a little help for her and the runner up RIVER RACER, they made their runs together and both efforts were excellent. When CHAPTER AND VERSE got the run inside BOOMTOWN LASS he looked the winner and his run was still good although beaten, he might have just found his level now. SKATE TO PARIS ran the best L600m and 400m of the day and her run was really good for something easier.
