GOLD COAST REVIEW – 16th MAY

Race 1 – Oriental runner ran right up to his solid Sydney form. This race was decimated by scratchings and he didn't even get to lead with Nick Keal and Luke Dittman Hellbent on their mounts. Zero take away here for mine.

Race 2 – This race looked to setup well for the Toowoomba horses and it worked out that way with Fighting Teo finding the lead easily enough and Romakash lobbing one out one back. Fighting Teo fought on doggedly. Loves Doomben so he will most likely pop up there in a fortnight in the Chairman's Handicap. Lota Creek Gold continued his great form and pretty much cost himself the race with his manners. If he could lead back to 1800m he would be hard to beat again. Le Juge whilst he is going ok over these longer trips I've felt for a while he would be much better suited over 1800m with a more solid tempo. No room at the business end here and he is probably looking for Eagle Farm.

Race 3 – Not much else could have gone wrong for my selection The Golden Hind here. The Stipes stated he was Replated prior to the Parade and pulled up coughing. When the gates opened he wasn't great out and was then ridden negatively in a race where there wasn't much tempo at all. Boris thought he would try and make a long run from and impossible position which was short lived. Eased up on him half way up the straight. I would just be putting a line through it and forgiving him. He is good horse and it just was an off day for him despite being backed into a very solid 2nd favourite. Happy to be wary of this form going forward as a whole.

Race 4 – Lope For Joya was a little disappointing here. Had a chance to get off the fence but was outsprinted. Think back in grade may suit her better. Far bit happening here. Lashoni continues to be a gun mare and should have won 4 more races this prep including this race. Haunted by ordinary barriers for her. Merlin's Magic was super strong through the line here looking for a mile. Special Thing also very strong and looking for at least a mile.

Race 5 – Soxagon got the job done as he was expected to. A very underrated horse who could be competitive in a stradbroke but looks to need a minor miracle to get in. Want to follow Carry On Ringo back in grade from this. He was really good and not well placed at all.

Race 6 – Not much take away here except that Wisdom Of Water has immense talent and the sky is the limit for him. Imagine if he finds a race where he is suited and puts it all together.

Race 7 – Gresham had been threatening to win a race over 1800m but I don't think many predicted he would have been able to win like that. Huge performance taken back to last and sprinted hard right next to the fence like he was jet propelled. Wary of this form going forward.

Race 8 – Money came for Hightail and he didn't disappoint. He was very well ridden by Ryan Maloney. Unfortunately I was wrong with Command'n'conquer and the market was 100% correct. This drift throughout the entire betting was worrying especially with this being his first prep and I was off the mark with him. Wasn't helped in the run or on the corner but he may benefit from a nice break now. The Odyssey continues to go super. You'd love to own one like him. Happy to follow Ruuca out of this. Thought he was very good and only 2nd up. Has a good race in him soon.

Race 9 – Not much to say here except Fiesta should have won and I would be very wary of this form going forward.
