MEDIA MAN TO DEBUT AT NEWCASTLE7 days ago
RACE 4 (1:39PM) RARITY WHOLESALE 2YO MAIDEN PLATE 900M
Good speed in this with 1,8 and 12 drawn in pressing. 6 the quickest of them drawn out with 3 looking to be forward drawn directly under him.
As we'd expect, there are a couple of handy 2YO’s in this race. I can narrow it down to a few chances with our boy, MEDIA MAN amongst them. RICCARDO, CAN’T DUCH DIS and MUSCADELLE the other three that I think are live hopes with Riccardo being the horse to beat.
RICCARDO comes out of our trial and performed well within himself. Form out of his first and only race start is very good (Holyfield and Prime Star). Metcalfe claims 3kg and he'll be awfully hard to pin back. However, I am expecting pressure up top and Media Man should get a nice cart in behind them.
Unfortunately, Gibbons is committed to Hickman, a stable whom he has been regularly riding for. With that, there’s no downgrade to Sherry and we get the luxury of his 1.5kg claim.
His trial: Awkwardly away, mustered quickly, sat deep on pace, given a shrug and responded well to win the heat quite soft. Time even for 2YO's comparatively. Gibbons report after: “He done it very kindly, even though I give him a little shove, he was actually doing it within himself and got a bit lost”.
Drawn barrier six with speed both sides, I expect he is crossed his outside and should hold a spot just in behind them. If I had one niggle; he may just want a shade further. To offset that, I expect he’ll be tracking a solid tempo.
#1 Can’t Duch Dis - First starter. Trialled on synthetic 740m. Mustered to lead. Given a shake, responded and extended. Won heat in good time for morning.
#2 Investor - Two trials only fair. Second of those better on Heavy 8 behind Able Hill, time slow. 1100m on debut, stuck in worser part of track, not ridden out. Pass mark. Likely crossed to be back 3-4 the fence.
#3 Kaufusi - Well backed in two starts to date, both over 1000m. Thought he’d appreciate 1000m again or even up to 1100m. Notably raced keen and has the norton bit (when jock pulls rein puts pressure on inside of mouth - helps stop pulling) on for this race. Query runner, however don’t believe well set up here.
#4 MEDIA MAN - Unfortunately, Gibbons is committed to Hickman, a stable whom he has been riding for. With that, there’s no real downgrade to have Sherry onboard and we get the luxury of the 1.5kg claim. He has had the one trial where he was away but mustered quickly, sat deep on pace, given a shrug and responded well to win his heat quite soft.
#5 Oscar Zulu - Two trials this time in with the second of those, improved on the synthetic. Time only average. Will be back and likely after further.
#6 Riccardo - Has had the one start with form out of that very strong. Boxed on quite well behind Holyfield (went on to win Baillieu) and Prime Star (won Millenium next start). Comes out of the same trial as Media Man, running 2nd. Good early toe, untouched. Profiles as if 900m will suit and will be in this a long way.
#7 Sir Bawn - Two average trials, the latest behind Media Man. May improve on top of the ground but from what we’ve seen, not in this.
#8 Muscadelle - Tipped out after only a fair trial late last year. Has definitely come back a nicer filly. Showed good speed from an outside barrier in her trial, sat deep and won quite well. Time good (notably the weather had cleared up - an hour after MM heat). Draws in and can hold rail or sit on leaders. Chance.
#9 Party Lady - Two neat trials before an even debut over 1200m. Barrier a query as is back to 900m.
#10 Shaik - Five trials from late last year with breaks between. One trial this time in, given a solid hit out and they ran time for the morning. Not overly convinced there is a lot more under the bonnet. Likely off them in running and expect will find a few of these too slick.
#11 Tellusastory Nic - No.
#12 Whatyoulookingat - Trialled well before a solid debut this C&D. Led them up and boxed on well. Winner came from just off midfield. She is another that presses from a low draw and race fitness will be on her side. Still think a couple will be stronger late.
#13 (e) Another Super - No.
#14 (e) Brownie’s Song. No.
