SUNSHINE COAST REVIEW - 11TH JULY1 month ago
Race 1 – KISUKANO was simply too good here and this should prove to be handy form going forward. COUNTRY SHOWGIRL is desperately looking for 1200m and beyond. She was very strong late as was BAD BARISTA. FLEET DOVE also whilst being easily handled by the winner stuck on very well and will appreciate a step in distance being able to dictate easier.
Race 2 – SOCIALISING jumped the best she had jumped all preparation. For some reson was ridden forward and then the brakes got slammed on. Can't help but feel if Nothdurft was even on her early she would have been able to get to the outside and challenge the winner. He was the query in the race LEROYTHECONQUEROR. Was his first win past 1000m and on soft or worse but only his 2nd run on anything worse than good. Batters has him flying.
Race 3 – CLOAK won ok 1st up in easier grade but this was another step or 2 and he went even better here I thought. ARTHUR IN CHARGE who had his back in the run had no answer to his turn of foot and strength through the line. A mile shouldn't be an issue.
Race 4 – Not going to sugar-coat this. Ronnie erred here. If he is positive early he finds the back of the winner and wins the race on RED DOULTON. Instead of taking the initiative early he was going to be stranded near the rear so then he decided to press the button and get onto Hanover Square's back and it nearly got beat by the Ambulance. Everyone makes mistakes but she should have won.
Race 5 – The small field here was always going to make this a bit of a non-event. The first 2 PROMETHEUS & ZAUNKONIG outsprinted the rest.
Race 6 – BOLD STYLE did the right thing by punters and just got there in time to run down a very game GIDEONS for the inform Batters camp. BOLD HUNTER the horse to follow. Right up in grade he was here and 1000m not really his go.
Race 7 – What a ripper WAPITI is. Big Preparation and we learned again here how strong and tough he is fighting back after looking seemingly gone. LOVE EXPRESS was well suited by the steady tempo but a mile was a big query for him and he ran super. For mine he is a 1000-1200m specialist that should be able to stretch to 1400m so really good run from him. KNIGHT MARINER again showed his dynamic turn of foot making up many lengths in the blink of an eye. He just wasn't seasoned enough to go on with it here head to head with a horse hardened from runs over 2000m and 1800m previously so not disgraced for mine. He surely has some improvement to come the question is... Can he stretch his brilliance over further?
Race 8 – KRONE finally found her race. SOXAGON ran well but unsure why he started favourite here. SPECIAL MISSILE went really well and I'd say if Jimmy Byrne had his time over he would have got rolling a lot sooner. Probably wins the race in that case.
Race 9 – Happy to follow both MUSICAL GENIUS & DITMAS from this. Both horses dictated to having to make their runs on the inferior section of the track. MUSICAL GENIUS is bombproof at this distance and DITMAS you would want to see him stepping up to 1200m with a senior jockey aboard.
