Flemington played fair and even although I think it probably raced a little quicker than a Good 4 by the end of the day...
THE BEST WIN
FLEMINGTON RACE 6 - DEFIBRILLATE
This bloke probably gets elevated because he was one of few good confidence bets on the day that actually won! But in all seriousness this horse is flying and should be headed to Tasmania for the Hobart and Launceston Cups - if he goes that way he will be winning them. The leaders didn't go overly quick but he just cruised into the race and put them away so easily - he'll keep winning this summer.
HORSES TO FOLLOW
1. MILTON PARK (Flemington Race 2)
This was a really tough win and Milton Park could be in for a good prep after showing more than enough promise during the early part of the spring. He's a big strong fellow and should land around that 1400-1600m range - he might not be Listed grade but he's certainly off-season class.
2. ZESTY BELLE (Flemington Race 5)
Could the penny be dropping with this much hyped filly? She's often started a short enough price in good races (and in some ordinary ones!) but has found a way to get beaten, she resumed with a really solid maiden win and went right on with it here. Her closing splits were strong and she looked a cut above this lot as she joined in by the 200m and raced clear.
3. INFLUENTIAL GIRL (Flemington Race 6)
I didn't include this mare in my original calculations for the race as she stepped up in grade but she proved that she might be capable of winning something a little better than I thought. Loved the way that she smashed the line late and I think we keep on the right side of her in the next run or two.
4. BLAZEJOWSKI (Flemington Race 7)
The handicapper has definitely got this bloke but I reckon he is going well. Eurell might have to step him up in grade to get some relief and it's the right time of year to set him that test, I reckon he's Listed/Group 3 class but he needs to find the right race...I'd back him at 58kg's or less in similar company over 1400m.
THE MARKET SAID...
WHITE HIBISCUS (5th R3) was backed as if she was unbeatable into a very short $1.55 quote but did not finish the race off like she did at Sandown. This is one of those great unknowns that racing throws up from time to time, who knew or could predict that this filly would run like this after her last win? Was it the track? Was she a little off her best physically? Who knows...I do know that I will be backing up on her again next time given a similar race.
