OVERVIEW

What a crazy couple of weeks it has been - chins up though punters, for as long as racing is continuing in this country, The Race Club will be searching for winners for you. Unfortunately The Valley played a bit leaderish on Friday night which was a real shame - below are the key winning performances and some horses to follow from the card.

STAND OUT WINS

R4 TOO CLOSE THE SUN: As expected a little more work and this fellow was right back to his best in this race and did a great job carrying top weight and absolutely smashing his rivals into the turf. I think I mentioned before his VIC debut that the horse looked Listed/G3 class in VIC in time and this win supports that inkling - keep an eye on him, the Warrnambool Cup might be within reach.

R6 PARADEE: I made it clear in the preview for this race that Danny O'Brien's untapped filly was a big threat to the top pick Snapdancer and so it proved to be. Considering the pattern on the night this win was no mean feat, especially as the filly was forced to cover some ground throughout and make a sustained run from the 650m. I'm not sure how far she will stay, maybe a mile is her best go - but she's certainly worth a look heading towards the 1800m Auraria and 2000m Schweppes Oaks in Adelaide.

R7 LOVING GABY: Big filly, big win. This was Loving Gaby's second G1 at The Valley and both came in similar circumstances where she has absorbed and then applied pressure to a class rival and has come out on top. All the talk this summer was about the sprinting colts, well, this filly has shown them all up here - a class act.

HORSES TO FOLLOW

R4 CAPE RICHARDS (5th): I had something on this horse the place and played him heavy in the exacta behind TCTS and on a fair track I reckon I'd have gone close to a collect. Get back - run on horses had little hope on the night and this bloke was right in that category. Stick with him in similar grade to 2000m on a bigger deck - he'll be winning soon!

R7 MYSTIC JOURNEY (5th): Tasmania's best horse resumed after a luckless summer prep that kept getting derailed with a really strong closing run in the feature race. I loved how she picked up immediately when gaps came and wasn't afraid to take a narrow run - she probably heads to Sydney or Brisbane now and will be something to beat over 1400m.

R7 ZOUTORI (11th): Probably the best 11th (last) you will see for a while. This bloke had a pattern against him but also a stack of bums from the 400m, he was never able to find any sort of rhythm and went to the line untested from the 350m, not sure where they take him next but he will be big odds and will run very well.

R8 MOONLIGHT MAID (6th): This Oaks placegetter took on the older mares and settled well back against the pattern of the night before running on really well from the 400m. This was never a winning target for MM but as she steps up in distance and gets towards an Oaks trip she will really start to come into contention - follow her from 2000m+.
