The Sultan's Randwick Review May 9

Much to my surprise, this track just didn’t dry out. Officially Soft5, times suggest it was in the upper echelon of a 5. The rail/on pace looked the place to be early, but then from all reports, the ground started shifting and chopping out as the day went on and it became possible to run on. Some horses were noted not to handle the conditions, which is extraordinary given the lead up weather.

Race 1

TEJORI is a smart filly. She had the run/was in the right part of the track, but this was a 3yo Filly at start 4, first go at 1200m and 2nd up off a 360 day spell. Fantastic effort. Another go at 1200m and she has to be followed. DERBY STAR put in a beauty fresh. Sprinted hard in a clear RF 6-200m split in the inferior ground, but peaked late. He gets further.

Race 2

OVERLORD was the eye catcher. Yes he had the rail and didn’t go around a runner, but his L200m was that far superior to anything else in the race and from all reports, had improvement to come in the yard. 1400m yes please!

Race 3

DUNBRODY POWER got the blinkers first time today and she was held up for much of the straight. Really hammered home once out and a win might be close for her in the right race.

Race 4

Messy, messy race. We cop plenty of bad luck in this game, so not going to apologise for copping some good luck on SOLDIER OF LOVE! Despite his fortune, he has still come back in super order and he gets better over further. He can be followed. MISS EINSTEIN likely runs past him if Byron Pickett (Celestial Falls) doesn’t shirtfront her at the 200m! She will excel even further on a proper wet track through the winter. SUBPOENAED was unlucky yes, but she’s a horse that needs lots of galloping room and chances were she wouldn’t get it from that gate. OPACITY was good fresh for a horse that’s looking for 2000m.

Race 5

MASKED CRUSADER - Wow! Not only did he absolutely spank these like it was a genuine track gallop, he ran the same time as SNITZ did when winning the Listed Takeover Target! That’s extraordinary stuff! If he bounces out of this and backs up next week in The Scone Guineas then dead set look out!

Race 8

How good was SNITZ here! Tracked a hot tempo, left a sitting duck but got real gutsy late! Stable aren’t quite sure where he goes next, but he is flying. He did have a brilliant set up to win today, however. CRACK ME UP was the eye catcher. He’s had his issues, but this was his first start for the new stable and he really savaged the line. Has the talent to win a race of this quality this prep.

Race 9

I backed RAPIDO CHAPARRO here, but definitely willing to forgive. He’s a genuine Good tracker and unfortunately, the chopped out surface really didn’t help his cause. He was beaten early, but not beaten far. 2000m, Good track next start and can bounce back. TOP PROSPECT is going well. He was held up badly and unlucky not to place.
