The Sultan's Rosehill Review March 14

Races 1-3 were on a Soft6, race 4 Soft7 and the remainder of the card on a Heavy9/Heavy10. This will be a difficult meeting to assess formwise as a result and you have to be forgiving of any failures.

Race 2/Race 3

I doubt there’s much to take away from the 2yo races on the card and this lot are a rung below the better ones I’d say.

Race 4

ZOUSTYLE went out hard, but he was cruising and had them off the bit and I was counting the cash. Unfortunately he bled and will incur a 3 month ban. STAR OF THE SEAS is a dead set mudlark and whenever he strikes a wet track, he grows a leg. Forgive GREYWORM. He ran up the backside of Zoustyle when he stopped and was running on well. I want to see him up in trip next start, he’s flying.

Race 5

Another match race between FUNSTAR and PROBABEEL and FUNSTAR won this round. PROBABEEL ran a quicker L600m, but the winner looked to have plenty up her sleeve and still ran a R F L200m. JMac noted that FUNSTAR felt better on top of the ground and although she handled the Heavy, she will be better again on Soft/Good. Moving forward, I can’t see her losing the Vinery if that’s where they go. She still has more improvement to come and she’s a rolled, gold superstar.

HTF FUNSTAR just wins the Vinery

Race 6

IMAGING showed his class here and his European form indicated he swims and that he did. He’s in very light in the Doncaster and if it’s wet, he’s well and truly in the mix. He had the run today, but the win was good. YULONG PRINCE ran a R F L200m and is building towards a good run at 2000m. Forgive QUACKERJACK. He didn’t handle the bottomless track and he’s better than that. CASCADIAN did CASCADIAN things. He’s just one of the unlucky types that’s costly to back.

Race 7

Could almost completely wipe this as a form reference I reckon. I do want to forgive SWEET SCANDAL. Was keen when the speed came out on paper, then they put in a late change of tactics to ride her conservatively. She pinged the lids and had the opportunity to press and lead, but clearly that CoT had Dolan guessing and he dragged back and was stuck in no mans land wide and back. She’s flying I reckon.

Race 8

MASTER OF WINE is now in the category of SURPRISE BABY and VOW AND DECLARE as Australia’s most promising stayers. He is yet to win a proper big race, but the way he has won his last 4 is remarkable. He puts his rivals to the sword and his turn of foot is devastating. As a horse racing fanatic, it genuinely gets you excited. He is versatile too! Jockey noted he didn’t love the ground either, but now we know he can at least handle it. Follow anywhere he goes. Early prediction - the Caulfield Cup is his.

HTF MASTER OF WINE in anything!

Race 9

Put a pen through this one. POSITIVE PEACE is airborne and dominant again. Time to wave goodbye to ROYAL CELEBRATION.
