The Sydney Review March 6

Track played hard and fast and it was an advantage to be near the speed.

Race set up well for WILD RULER and he won with ease tracking a strong tempo set by MAMARAGAN, who has failed to live up to expectation. WILD RULER will head towards The Galaxy, and although HAUT BRION HER is being aimed up at that and the one to beat, he’s in the game.

Outstanding race and The Slipper winner comes from here. I thought PROFITEER was outstanding. Four weeks between runs for a horse that races keen was always a risk, and it proved to be his undoing. He was 0.2L away from us saying ‘he got the trip’, and he did so whilst keen throughout. Loved the fight late. The edge is off him for Grand Final day and he’s the #1 seed for mine. The winner ANAMOE was good; had the perfect trip. STAY INSIDE was a forgive. If it’s wet on Slipper day, his chances enhance. I still have him as the #2 seed.

Good, positive ride from JVO on GLISTENING. She was assisted by the pattern of the day and thankfully, the narrow photo went her way. TRIFACCIA has an unreal motor under the hood. Her racing manners are bringing her undone, so the ability to still finish off the way she is says she has a good win in her very soon. SWIFT WITNESS was very good against the pattern. PRETTY WOMAN luckless.

Smart ride from Berry on MOUNT POPA. Clearly the superior horse, but knew his rival SACRAMENTO thrived on a dog fight, so waited until the perfect time to press the button. MP can progress nicely through the grades and looks like a definite Group class horse. COLLIDE good for a horse wanting 3000m. THE LORD MAYOR wants 2400m.

Sheesh they went fast here and broke the track record by half a second! That is humming! NATURE STRIP had to work to lead and that was the undoing in the final 10m. A very good run regardless. EDUARDO showed excellent fight and a sensational return. BELLA VELLA was home in a 32.10, the F L600m OTD. She came from last and ran past them all bar 1/2. A shallower sprint will be to her liking. WRITTEN BEAUTY was heavily backed, but she raced a touch keen when having to be eased off heels. Can forgive.

EMANATE more effective with cover, but every chance and winner VULPINE too slick. JEN RULES good from too far back.

MO’UNGA was a dead set certainty beaten here and it was horrible viewing for his backers. Can’t knock the decision to come outside. He knew he had a lapful of horse, but unfortunately, the moment he came out, the seas parted. Rider also dropped nearside reign at the 150m, forcing him to come back off heels. Track bias aside, only bad luck beats him in the Rosehill Guineas. AEGON maybe wants some give in the ground. Uncharacteristically poor. HARMONY ROSE had the run, but outstanding run way up in class and back to Fillies grade up in trip, she’s right on track. ATC Oaks her GF. LION'S ROAR good and on track for Derby.

Still scratching my head over the BIVOUAC placement. Why avoid The Newmarket when he only gave September Run 1.5kg from the Lightning at a track/trip he loves. 1000m to 1300m here, shifted back when unbalanced, raced wide without cover throughout and had to make an early move. Horror show. Where to from here though? MASKED CRUSADER was outstanding in his first true acid test. All his knockers are silenced. What he does between now and April 17 I’m not sure, but he has All Aged Stakes (1400m G1 WFA) written all over him. SAVATIANO got her much deserved G1.

SHE’S IDEEL very good against the pattern. 2000m now yes please.
