Weir to front RAD Board on Wednesday

Darren Weir will appear before the Racing and Appeals Disciplinary (RAD) Board on Wednesday, as Racing Victoria (RV) stewards seek to have the leading trainer disqualified for four years over a range of serious charges.

Weir was last week arrested, after 'jiggers' were recovered during raids on his Ballarat and Warrnambool stables.

The 48-year-old was released without charge, however on Friday, Racing Victoria stewards issued six charges against him. Stable employees Jarrod McLean and Tyson Kermond were also charged.

Weir appeared at a marathon show cause hearing that went into the early hours of Tuesday, and chose not to contest the charges.

Racing Victoria announced on Tuesday: "The RAD Board penalty hearing with respect to the charges laid by the Racing Victoria stewards against trainer Darren Weir under AR 175(hh)(ii) (possession of an electronic apparatus capable of affecting performance of a horse) and AR 175A (conduct prejudicial to the image, interests or welfare of racing) will take place at 8.30am tomorrow, Wednesday 6 February 2019."
